The Build Sheet

The
Tacoma

Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road — every part on this page is bolted to the truck and earning its keep on Arizona rock, snow, mud, and washboard. Nothing listed that isn’t installed. Built over years, tested on every trip the channel films.

42 parts · 9 systems

Armor & Protection

Steel and aluminum between the truck and the rocks.

Front Bumper

C4 Fabrication

C4's Hybrid front bumper — full plate where it takes hits, open where it saves weight — with winch mounting and recovery points built in, because Arizona trails eventually ask for both.

Full Skid Plates

C4 Fabrication

C4's 3/16-inch steel skid plates cover the engine, transmission, and transfer case underneath. On Arizona's rocky trails that's the difference between a scraped plate and a cracked pan.

Rear Differential Skid Plate

DRT Fabrication

DRT's diff skid hugs the rear differential in 3/16-inch steel, shielding the pinion and U-joint without eating ground clearance. Built for the 8.75 rear end under TRD Off-Road trucks.

Rear Shock Skid Plates

Cali Raised LED

Cali Raised's shock skids bolt straight over the rear shock mounts — 10-gauge steel, no u-bolt removal needed. Rear shocks sit low and exposed; this keeps a rock strike from becoming a leak.

Rock Sliders

Cali Raised LED

Tube steel sliders that bolt to the frame and take the hit when a rock line goes wrong, so the damage lands on steel instead of the rocker panels. No cutting, no drilling.

Rear Bumper

Outgear Solutions

Outgear Solutions high-clearance rear bumper with a custom-welded swing-out — better departure angle for ledges and washouts, plus carrying capacity the stock bumper never had.

Gas Tank Skid Plate

No brand — shop part

Armor under the fuel tank — it hangs low and unguarded from the factory, and a skid plate is a lot cheaper than a fuel leak miles from pavement.

Tailgate Panel Insert

Snail Armor Discount code →

Flat aluminum panel that replaces the factory tailgate applique — bolts into stock holes, no mods. Powder-coated to shrug off dust and scratches.

Tailgate Lock

TacomaBeast

Keyed lock that stops the tailgate from being lifted off and stolen — an easy, common theft target — while normal opening and closing stays unaffected.

Cam Tabs & Spindle Gussets

No brand — shop part

Weld-on reinforcement for the front knuckles that protects the alignment cams from bending on rock strikes. Cheap insurance against a trail-side alignment problem.

High-Clearance Fender Liners

C4 Fabrication

Aluminum liners that replace the stock plastic, sealing tighter against the fender to keep rocks and mud off the engine bay when the tires are throwing debris.

Suspension & Drivetrain

How it rides loaded, and how it climbs.

Off-Road Wheels

Ultra Wheel

One-piece cast aluminum wheels built for off-road duty. On Arizona's rock sections a weak rim ruins a trip — these have taken hard hits without complaint.

King Shocks with Adjusters

King Shocks

King 2.5s with remote reservoirs and compression adjusters — dialed stiffer for rock, softer for washboard. The extra oil volume keeps them cool on long, rough Arizona runs.

Upper Control Arms

Icon Vehicle Dynamics

Icon's tubular upper control arms use their Delta Joint — a heavy-duty ball joint for high-angle articulation — with caster correction and extra wheel travel for rutted, off-camber climbs.

SumoSprings Bump Stops

SuperSprings

Urethane bump stops over the rear axle that cushion the hit when the suspension bottoms out, loaded with camp gear on rock and washboard, without adding air or maintenance.

Leaf Springs

Deaver

Deaver's Stage 3 progressive pack replaces the stock springs — built for a bed that's permanently loaded with rack, tent, and camp gear, without sagging on rough Arizona roads.

Upgraded Coil Springs

No brand — shop part

Heavier-rate front coils that carry the added weight of the steel bumper and winch without sagging, keeping ride height where it should be on rock and washboard.

Ring & Pinion Regear

Nitro Gear & Axle

Both axles regeared to 4.88s to match the larger tires, bringing engine RPM back into its power band — restoring the acceleration stock gearing lost.

Engine Tune

No brand — shop part

A tune adjusts the engine's fuel and timing maps to work with the added weight and larger tires, recovering drivability the mods took away.

Lighting

For the drives that start before sunrise or end after dark.

Off-Road Lights

Baja Designs

Baja Designs LEDs all the way around — pods in the bumper, ditch lights up front, and more on the roof rack — for the drives that start before sunrise or end after dark.

LED Headlights

AlphaRex

Plug-and-play LED headlights with a built-in DRL and sequential turn signal. Real projectors, not reflector housings, so the beam pattern is more controlled on dark forest roads after sunset.

LED Tail Lights

AlphaRex

LED tail lights with sequential turn signals, swapped in for the stock units. LEDs light instantly — a small safety edge on the highway stretches between trailheads.

Mirror-Mounted Ditch Lights

No brand — shop part

Auxiliary lights at the mirrors angle out to the sides, lighting the shoulder of the trail where the rocks and washouts hide after dark.

Power & Electrical

Camp power that never touches the starting battery.

Dual Battery System

Genesis Offroad

A pre-wired isolator kit that charges a second battery off the alternator, so the fridge, lights, and camera gear run off camp power without risking a dead starting battery.

Auxiliary Batteries

No brand — shop part

Deep-cycle batteries running alongside the dual-battery kit for extra reserve — fridge overnight, lights, charging gear — camp power that doesn't touch what starts the truck.

Hood Solar Panel

Lensun Discount code →

Flexible panel shaped to the hood contour, wired to trickle-charge the camp battery. No roof rack needed. Covered the install on the channel — keeps gear charged without running the engine.

Rooftop Tent Solar Panel

Merlin Solar

Flexible panel bonded to the iKamper shell, always facing up and always charging. Feeds the camp battery so the fridge and lights don't drain it dry.

Switch Panel System

Switch Pros

Runs the lights, compressor, and accessories off one programmable panel instead of a dash full of separate switches and relays — each circuit labeled and adjustable from an app.

Recovery & Air

For getting stuck, unstuck, and aired down in between.

Winch

Warn / Factor 55

Warn winch running synthetic line, paired with a Factor 55 UltraHook so the system runs closed — less chance of hardware becoming a projectile if something lets go mid-recovery.

Recovery Boards

MaxTrax

Traction boards that wedge under tires stuck in sand, mud, or snow, letting the truck drive itself out without a winch or a second truck. Arizona trails swing between all three conditions in one day.

Rapid Precision Valves

Apex

Valve stems that dump street pressure fast for airing down at the trailhead, then reseal for the drive out. One less step fumbling with a gauge before the fun starts.

Air Compressor

ARB

12V compressor for airing down before rock and sand sections, then airing back up on pavement. Runs off the truck's power — no more waiting on a gas station air hose.

Camp & Sleep

Home, wherever the truck is parked.

iKamper Skycamp 3.0 Mini

iKamper

Hardshell pops up in about a minute and packs down tight for narrow trailheads. Insulated shell takes the edge off Arizona's swing between desert heat and cold nights at elevation.

Privacy Shower Tent

KickAss Products

Folds out from the rear in seconds for a private shower or changing space. No trees or rocks to hide behind on open desert flats, so this is the only privacy I get at camp.

Storage & Racks

Everything strapped down, nothing rattling.

Prinsu Roof Rack

Prinsu

Low-profile aluminum rack that bolts to factory mounts, no drilling. T-slot crossbars let me shift traction boards, tents, or lights around instead of building a whole new setup.

Pelican Cases

Pelican

Waterproof, crushproof cases with an O-ring seal — keeps electronics and food dry through mud, dust, and monsoon downpours, and doubles as a stool at camp.

Aluminum Bed Rack

RCI Offroad

Aluminum keeps weight down compared with the steel version, which matters when there's already a rooftop tent up top. Built to hold gear low and secure without raising the truck's center of gravity on rocky lines.

Comms & Connectivity

Online and reachable where cell towers aren't.

Starlink

Starlink Free month →

Satellite internet that works where cell towers don't — pull it out, get a clear sky view, and you're online in minutes. Runs off a battery or small solar setup for remote camps.

Cell Signal Booster

weBoost

Pulls a weak signal from distant towers, amplifies it, and rebroadcasts it inside the cab. Prescott's canyons and mesas kill reception fast, and this is what keeps a map or a check-in call working.

Starlink Mount

No brand — shop part

Keeps the Starlink dish planted on the rack through wind and washboard — set it once and camp internet is online wherever the truck is parked.

Audio & Interior

The inside, holding up to what the outside brings in.

Sound System

JL Audio

Full JL Audio setup — speakers and amplification replacing the factory system front to back. Clear sound at speed, windows down or on washboard.

All-Weather Floor Liners

Lasfit

TPE liners molded to the Tacoma's floor. They trap mud, snow melt, and desert grit instead of letting it soak the carpet — pull them out and hose them off after a trail day.
